Charles James Fox supports a select group of young eventers through the Born and Bred Equestrian Young Rider Support Scheme which aims to build a network of contacts within a secure mentoring system. This small group of riders can benefit from our assistance and that of fellow riders to help them on their way to reaching their goals within the eventing world.

The aim of the Born and Bred Equestrian Young Rider Support Scheme is to give a small helping hand to a group of talented young eventers in a variety of ways. Charles James Fox provides levels of sponsorship to people between the ages of 15-25 years old.

The idea is to provide a support network for young eventers and a range of contacts of more experienced riders who are available to pass on their relevant recent experiences and advice. There are two levels within the scheme:

Young Eventer Level
The riders receive a 40% discount off the Born and Bred Equestrian clothing range which can all be personalised carrying their unique rider number initials & website if so wished. There is no obligation for the riders to buy/wear Born and Bred Equestrian clothing. In addition, the riders receive access to the mentor riders, who they can go to for help with questions about their horse, any aspect of eventing and they can arrange meet up and chat over a performance with both mentors and fellow young riders at a show or event and even book private one-to-one or small group sessions with mentors on their yards, or organise a visit to their own school.
Charles James Fox  also offers the opportunity to help young riders increase their profile through the social media as well as helping to set up web sites, blog sites as well as giving further exposure through the Charles James Fox web site and Facebook and Twitter pages. The programme is relaxed and Young Rider driven. It is they who should approach others within the group for help and advice or for booking private lessons.

Mentor Level
The Mentors are fully sponsored and receive a designated amount of Born and Bred Equestrian clothing to wear at home as well as well as pre-, during and post competition. Each mentor is linked to two or three young riders designated to them to help, support and look out for at events, but are not exclusive to those riders. The mentors have experienced the difficulties, heartache and been through the hard work, long hours as well as the many highs and lows en route to where they have got to in the eventing world. The idea is that these riders, who are also busy working hard to reach their goals are maybe two or three years ahead of where the Young Riders are currently. It is hoped that they are able to pass on the advice and tips which got them through a difficult time, managing success as well as failure and also being a friendly ear when you think it has all gone wrong and you just need to hear a positive voice. We feel that they are perfectly placed to offer the young riders the advice, help and guidance needed to negotiate the hard as well as the good times as they work to reach their goals in their chosen discipline.

There is a natural progression through the levels with the Young Riders who show the necessary qualities to follow their mentors' lead and look to take on their own group of mentees if this is something that they show an interest or talent for.

21yo event rider, based near Badminton, Gloucestershire. I have moved through the British Eventing Pony, Junior and Young rider programmes, and I am now in my first season as a senior. I started BE when I was 12 on ponies, and was lucky enough to compete at the National Pony Championships on Seren Goch when I was 14. Over the next few years I moved on to horses and gained top ten placings at National Junior Championships, including top 8 placings two consecutive years at the Junior Nationals and Reserve Champion at the U18 Nationals. When I was 16 Nankin des Ruettes and I were 7th in the Senior National Novice Championships held at the Festival of British Eventing, and subsequently long listed to compete as part of the 2011 GBR Junior European Eventing team. The following year we were first reserve. From there I took two gap years after A levels, and I am now in my second year at the University of Bath doing a Sports Performance degree, helped by a Sports Scholarship. Last season (2015) NANKIN DES RUETTES and CHARLES RR were long listed for the Senior CIC** Europeans Championships after NANKIN DES RUETTES finished 5th at Hartpury International CCI**, and CHARLES RR 2nd in the CCI**u24 at Tattersall's International. They also made a successful transition to Advanced, each completing their first two double clear. 7yo LAWA has also been selected for the World Class Equine Pathway. Over the last 6 years I have had the privilege of producing and competing a team of talented and exciting horses, gaining wins and placings at all levels of British Eventing up to Advanced. As well as being part of the Junior, Young Rider and Senior 2* European First Team Squads, I have been lucky enough to be part of Sport England Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), BEF Excel Talent Programme, SportsAid, Wiltshire Council Sports Grant and The Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE).

I am Pandora. I'm based in Wiltshire and event two ponies at BEnovice/FEI pony trial level. I started BE when I was 12 with my pony Charlie at BE80 and the next season we completed our first pony trial double clear. Last season I competed at Be100 and Novice on my young pony and towards the end of the season started competing my new pony Bobby. I am also a member of the pony club and competed at the championships in both open dressage and intermediate eventing. This season I am aiming to complete Brand hall pony championships with both ponies if the rest of the trials go well. I will also be competing at badminton grassroots on my younger pony Owen. I am very grateful for the support from Born and Bred and being part of such a friendly team is really fun. I could not live without my base layer as it is just so great for every weather that I encounter while competing as well as looking rather stylish in the process.
